Thesis Project

The master plan extends the Park Blocks North, terraces up the Broadway bridge and establishes a new connection to Union Station.

Marking the start of the Park Blocks transition a large, public amphitheater becomes Portland’s new living room.

The building is made up of two contrasting masses that respond to the site and programmatic conditions. A mass timber structure reaches toward the Park Blocks side to the west and a concrete mass anchor into the NW Broadway bridge to the east. A central atrium invites visitors to travel between the two structures.

The unique experience sparks curiosity and engages informal exploration between film students, faculty, staff, and community members.

A sensory path, weaving its way through the building, draws reference to film storytelling through a series of transition spaces.
